(NASHVILLE, Tenn., May 6, 2010) – Clinix continues to be in the forefront as current Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) mandated standards for transmission of claims and remittances are in the process of being upgraded to newer versions. The Center for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) has required that version 5010 will be fully implemented by January 1, 2012. The Version 5010 is a more advanced version of the currently used standards, which are mandated in the U.S. to transmit certain industry wide electronic medical transactions.
Clinix is preparing for this major transition in a variety of ways. While moving forward into Version 5010 implementation, they are also maintaining the established Version 4010 as an option for each carrier in the event that a carrier is not currently prepared to handle the Version 5010 update. Internal Version 5010 testing has been completed and external testing will begin in the next couple of months. It will move into parallel production in 2011 and full production in 2012. This upgrading process is the predecessor project to the implementation of ICD-10 diagnosis codes, which will be required by October 1, 2013.
“Clinix has completed another milestone in preparation for processing Version 5010 transactions according to the CMS timeline. This is a major project and one that Clinix has been made a top priority in order to ensure that our customers can continue processing claims in a timely manner as carriers transition from the Version 4010 to Version 5010,” said Dan Tankersley, Chief Information Officer for Clinix. “Having the capability to test Version 5010 this early in the schedule is placing our customers in a more secure position of being prepared as both Version 5010 and the ICD-10 deadlines approach.”
