HIPAA Compliance

Clinix recognizes that it is difficult to make a physician practice "HIPAA Compliant," because it is a broad area that transcends mere computer systems. However, we have worked hard to evaluate areas where our Clinix system can best provide our clients with either compliance or tools and environments to facilitate compliance. We have focused many hours of analysis and programming time on the areas where we felt we could most assist our clients to meet the challenges and opportunities presented by HIPAA.

Your data is secure

With the Clinix system, you don't have to worry about your servers sitting under someone's desk or in a closet. Our state-of-the-art servers are housed in a hardened, certified, HIPAA compliant data center protected by digital security systems that provide you with instant compliance with the data security provisions of HIPAA.

Virtual Private Networks

Our use of Virtual Private Networks (VPN) for client connections to the Clinix data center, along with secure data transmission technology, such as encrypted FTP protocols, with data trading partners such as hospitals and insurance companies, meet or exceed standards required by HIPAA for the movement of protected data between data trading partners.

Transition Sets

Clinix utilizes HIPAA mandated transaction code sets in all aspects of the system. We added tables to our Oracle database that contain the ANSI code sets, such as taxonomy codes, claim adjustment reason codes, and modifiers, all of which are used to validate data as it is entered into the system.

ANSI X12 Standards

Clinix files millions of electronic claims every year directly from the Clinix system to Medicare, Medicaid, Blue Cross Blue Shield and Railroad Medicare in more than 30 states using the ANSI X12 4010A 837 standards. We also receive and prepare electronic remittance (ERA) files from those same payers for our clients in a very convenient, business "smart" manner using both the ANSI X12 4010A 835 standards and our own proprietary design within the Clinix system user interface. During the early stages of HIPAA implementation Clinix was the first company to be certified for ANSI claim submission by several Medicare contractors, such as CIGNA. Clinix also files commercial claims through Emdeon in the ANSI X12 837 format.

NPP and PHI

Clinix developed tools within the patient account area of the system to allow our online clients to note compliance with NPP requirements and to create automatic "triggers" or reminders for your staff when working with accounts containing PHI requests by the patient. Although we have met or exceeded standards on behalf of our clients, we continue to monitor additional developments in this area to ensure our clients are protected – from the system perspective.
