Dr. McAtee recognized that paper charts could lead to redundancies and gaps in recording. Additionally, he noticed that doctors code differently and the entire charting process could use streamlining. Dr. McAtee has realized an unexpected benefit of the new record system – he can provide better patient care by inputting his own chart information as opposed to the way he used to do charting. Before, he would verbally record his thoughts into a dictation device and a transcriber would later transcribe them into the paper charts. Now that he personally inputs patient information and details into the ClinixMD system, he can immediately review his thoughts and thoroughly assess the patient’s situation in real-time.

Some patients seem apprehensive of the electronic system Dr. McAtee uses at first, but once they see the benefits, mainly through the printed or automatically faxed prescriptions, they are converts. Dr. McAtee also believes they can feel the difference in their regular interactions with the clinic in the sense that, in general, the electronic system keeps their interaction with the clinic smooth and accurate from start to finish.
